Weather Update Today: The weather is constantly fluctuating as the month of May progresses. While some days are unbearably hot and humid, the citizens are getting relief from untimely rainfall in parts of North India, including the national capital. On Friday evening, many areas in Delhi-NCR witnessed dust storms followed by light to moderate rainfall, providing much-needed relief from the intense heat troubling people. Additionally, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert in the national capital and other states. Meanwhile, the weather department has also issued a warning of heatwave in parts of UP and Rajasthan.

IMD Rain Alert in Delhi-NCR

The national capital witnessed a drop in temperature and a reduction in pollution on Friday night as strong winds and rain occurred in some areas of Delhi. Yesterday, the maximum recorded temperature in Delhi was 40 degrees Celsius. Rain and thunderstorms are also expected in the capital on Saturday, according to the Meteorological Department. The sky will continue to be overcast today, with a chance of rain. The maximum temperature during this period is expected to remain between 37 and 39 degrees Celsius. A yellow alert has also been issued for lightning, dust storms, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the national capital.

Heatwave Alert in UP

Uttar Pradesh is facing extreme heat and rain in many areas. Temperatures rose above 40 degrees Celsius in some districts, including Lucknow, Kanpur, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. The IMD reported that rain with thunder and lightning is likely in various sections of the state from May 19. The weather will be clear today, with rain and thundershowers anticipated in certain areas of eastern Uttar Pradesh. On Saturday, heat waves are forecast in cities including Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Kannauj, Banda, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Aligarh, Mathura, and Hathras.

Weather in Bihar

Torrential rain began falling in numerous districts of Bihar on Friday evening, offering much-needed reprieve from the state's sweltering heat for quite some time.  The situation is projected to remain unchanged until May 20. IMD has issued an orange alert for thunder, rain, and lightning in 18 districts. Six of these districts will see hot, humid weather during the day.  Apart from that, rainfall, thunder, lightning, and strong winds are expected today in West Champaran, East Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, and Katihar..  

Rain Alert in Northeast, South

Over the next few days, Northeast Indian states are predicted to experience heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.  These are: Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, and Tripura. Parts of the Northwest and Northern states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi, are also expected to see sporadic rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds during this time.

Several regions in South India, including Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and the Union Territories of Puducherry and Lakshadweep, are expected to witness heavy rains, thunderstorms, and gusty winds. Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada are expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall, as well as thunderstorms and lightning in some regions. Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Bihar are forecast to see similar weather conditions, including rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds in the coming days.
