How will the election results of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab affect the politics of India? The exit poll has predicted a massive victory for BJP in Uttar Pradesh and the Congress will be routed in Punjab, just a day before the counting of votes cast in five state elections tomorrow.
Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party, the BJP's main challenger, will win 35 percent of the votes, says the exit poll, while Mayawati's BSP is set to win 15 percent of the votes and the Congress three per cent in Uttar Pradesh.
The counting of votes will start at 8 am with postal ballots. The counting of electronic voting machines (EVM) will begin at 8.30 am.
In Punjab, the exit polls predicted Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will be the champion with 40 percent of the votes and the Congress will get 26 per cent of the votes. The BJP is projected to win seven per cent of the votes while its former ally, Akali Dal, will win 20.
