Chhattisgarh New CM: Vishnu Deo Sai Biography, Family, Education and Political Career

Vishnu Deo Sai Biography:  A BJP leader, devoted to the upliftment of the tribal population, and now the newly elected Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh to take oath on 13 December 2023, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Family & Education 

Sai was born on 21 February 1964, in Bagiya village, Jashpur District in the undivided Madhya Pradesh, now Chhattisgarh. His father Ram Prasad Sai and his mother Jashmani Devi come from a family of farmers. His schooling was completed at the Loyola Higher Secondary School in Kunkuri, Jashpur. He left his village to move to the city of Ambikapur with the hope of pursuing his graduation. However, leaving it midway he returned to his roots. 

He married Kaushalya Sai and had a son and two daughters with her. 

Political Trajectory 

1989

Sai’s political career started in the village as a panch member of the village panchayat of Bagia village in 1989. His reign as a panch was followed by his unanimous win as the sarpanch of the village in the following year. 

Sai comes from a family of leaders with his grandfather and elder brother of the grandfather having ruled as MLA and MP of the Jan Sangh and Janata Party Governments respectively.  

1990

He embarked on the road of electoral politics and got his maiden win on a BJP ticket, elected as the MLA from Tapkara district.  

1999

His journey as a member of the legislative assembly started with the Raigarh Lok Sabha constituency which brought him a tripartite win consecutively till 2014.  

2020

He became the state president of the Bhartiya Janta Party 

2014

He held the office as a Union Minister of Steel, Mines, Labour, and Employment in the first cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.  

2023

In a monumental win of his career, Sai was announced as the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh state on December 10. He will sworn oath as the new CM on 13 December 23.

Interests

As a tribal leader, a member of the Knawar tribe, and a former agriculturalist his interests lie in the upliftment of the state of tribal people. He is also the first tribal Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh.
