Maha Kumb 2025: Held every 12 years, Maha Kumbh is a spiritual and religious gathering attracting millions of people from all across the world. The largest religious gathering in the world, Maha Kumbh 2025 started on 13 January 2025 and will conclude on 26 February 2025. The 45 days of the gigantic festival will provide a temporary home to more than 400 million devotees flocking to Prayagrah (formerly Allahabad) to cleanse their sins and seek salvation.

This year the festival is expected to have around 400 million devotees taking a holy dip at Sangam, the confluence of river Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati.

This year, the Maha Kumbh has an active use of digital and hi-tech security measures to ensure the safety of the devotees in the mela. The massive scale of the grounds is monitored by AI-powered cameras, drones, anti-drones, tethered drones, and underwater drones. 

Celebrity Participation and performances

Maha Kumbh 2025 is beyond a mere religious occurrence. It is a cultural festival displaying rich arts and performances from all parts of the country in one place. This year the festival will also mark the participation of celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, and Ashutosh Rana. 

Folk and cultural performances will include names like Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, Rishab Rikhiram Sharma, and Kailash Kher.

Revenue Generation 

Maha Kumbh is a spring festival contributing immensely to the economy of the state of Uttar Pradesh, and the country at large. 

A budget of Rs. 7,500 crore has been allocated for the infrastructure and services provided at the mela. In return, the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is expected to generate a revenue of Rs. 2 lakh crore from multiple sources like religious items, lodging, advertising, helicopter services, and food and beverages. 

A temporary stay of 4,000 hectares

The Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 is a temporary city sprawling across 4,000 hectares of land with facilities like better sanitation, enhanced transportation, security staff of over 40,000 police officers, and AI-backed surveillance.
