Advance Tip Feature: The Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has issued a notice to Uber India seeking an explanation for their ‘advance tip’ feature that demands users to pay a tip even before the service is delivered to them.
Union food and consumer affairs minister Prahalad Joshi revealed on his X account that a step has been taken against the ‘unethical’ practice by the platform. In the statement he tweeted, “The practice of 'Advance Tip' is deeply concerning. Forcing or nudging users to pay a tip in advance, for faster service, is unethical and exploitative. Such actions fall under unfair trade practices… Taking cognisance of this, I had asked CCPA to look into it, and today, CCPA has issued a notice to Uber in this regard, seeking an explanation from the platform.”
