ISRO Succeds in Bringing Back Chandrayaan-3 Propulsion Module To Earth Orbit

05 Dec, 2023

ISRO’s Win: Indian Space Research on Tuesday announced “In another unique experiment, like the hop experiment on the Vikram Lander, the Propulsion Module of Chandrayaan-3 was moved from an orbit around the Moon to an orbit around the Earth.”

ISRO’s Lunar Mastery

The propulsion modules used to transport the Chandrayaan-3 lander to low lunar orbit have returned to the Earth Orbit. The success has brought India closer to its aim to land the first Indian on the rocky terrain of the Moon by 2040.

It has been possible after multiple maneuvers performed after its launch on 14 July.  An experiment enabled ISRO to plan and execute the trajectory of the module propulsion back to Earth.

After successfully accomplishing the mission objectives of carrying the sample from the Moon, the propulsion module is back in the Earth orbit ensuring it doesn’t clash with the Moon or straying to any geostationary orbit.

The first maneuver was performed on October 9 and is now in Earth orbit at the height of 1.54 lakh km.
