Janmashtami 2024: Janmashtami is a sacred Hindu festival celebrated as the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. Like Diwali, Holi, and other festivals, Krishna Janmashtami is also celebrated with huge excitement and a month-long preparation. Janmashtami is celebrated magnificently in Mathura and Vrindavan, the birthplace and childhood place of Lord Krishna. On the occasion of Janmashtami, several prominent temples in the area, including the ISKCON temple, Rangnathji temple, Banke Bihari temple, and Radharaman temple, perform significant ceremonies. It's said that Lord Krishna performed the Raas Leela in the Madhuban in Vrindavan. Madhuban hosts several folk performances during Janmashtami, and people from all over India and the globe are drawn to its allure.
Maharashtra is known for its ‘Dahi Handi’ custom, in which groups known as “Govindas” build human pyramids to break hanging handis (pots). They participate in the stunt while chanting “Govinda, Govinda.”
During the event, Imphal’s Hindu community offers prayers to the shrine of Shri Shri Govindajee in Imphal, ISKCON, and spectacular Manipuri performances honoring the Lord are presented.
It is said that Lord Krishna’s kingdom is located in Dwarka, Gujarat. Lord Krishna is worshipped at the Dwarkadhish Temple. The temple grounds are incredibly gorgeous on Janmashtami day, with hundreds of lovely lights and eye-catching decorations. Here, Lord Krishna is worshipped in his infant form at the Dwarkadhish Temple with kirtans and bhajans. The temple authorities adorn Lord Dwarkadhish with diamonds, gold, and other priceless gems.
