Koffee With Karan 8: Sharmila Tagore talks about Amrita Singh, Kareena Kapoor; Saif on his First Marriage and Film

Koffee With Karan:  Sharmila Tagore made her debut on the most popular talk show hosted by Karan Johar, Koffee With Karan. The show known for initiating controversies and scandalous exchanges became the couch filled with nostalgia and recollections when the Pataudi Mother-Son duo graced it. 

Of the many things, the two talked some made headlines. Saif-Amrita’s wedding, Sharmila's relations with Kareena, and Saif’s beginning in Bollywood and childhood. 

Saif-Amrita’s marriage and divorce both hurt Sharmila   

Talking about the sudden marriage of Saif Ali Khan with Amrita Singh, the veteran actor revealed that she was visiting Mumbai when he came to meet her and told her about Amrita to which Tagore asked him not to get married but just then he disclosed that he has already married her. “A big tear fell out of her eye and she started crying” … ‘you've really hurt me.' recollected Saif.  She remarked, “Actually I was visiting Mumbai for something and Saif came to me, to meet me. And he said I have something to tell you and he told me. And then of course, I don't know what I was doing but I was quiet and he says Amma you're quiet and your color is changing and you are looking different. And I told him we would talk about it later. And then he left then I rang up Tiger and told him and there was a long silence on his part and then we left it at that.” 

Tagore also talked about her feelings about the couple, where she said that both have been similar in many ways, Saif was good at mimicking and she was a great storyteller, and the room would be filled with laughter in their presence. 

Talking about their divorce, Said told the host that Tagore was the first person he told her about separation, and her support meant a lot to him however Sharmila and Tiger, her husband felt ‘doubly deprived’ of Amrita and the children, whom they adored. 

Sharmila’s bond with Kareena 

Kareena and Tagore have been acquaintances. Kareena’s open and honest nature is what impressed Tagore. Recollecting the time when she met her with Saif in Delhi, she interjected.

"I had friends over, lots of people from Delhi. These two came and were sitting there. I casually said, What's happening. She Kareena said, when Saif woke up in the morning, he told me this...Giving the impression that they are living together. This is Delhi and these are my friends of my age."

Saif’s initial struggle in the industry; ‘He is not a brat’- Sharmila Tagore 

Saif’s initial days in the industry have been a rough terrain. He was replaced in a movie on grounds of unprofessionalism however Yash Raj’s belief in giving him ‘Parampara’ changed the course of time. 

The mother was asked about whether her son was a brat growing up to which she replied that he was not a brat but “caused anxiety all around.”
