MasterChef India Grand Finale: Season 7 finally gets a winner; here are the highlights

MasterChef India has been delighting the audience for weeks, and today was the big day for the participants and the finalists. Judges Vikas Khanna, Ranveer Brar, and Garima Arora have been giving the six finalists challenging assignments since March 27. The top three contenders were revealed on March 29- Suvarna, Santa, and Nayanjyoti. Today, MasterChef India 7’s big finale was aired on SonyLiv and Sony Entertainment and announced the winner of the trophy and the ultimate Chef Jacket.

Masterchef India Season 7 Winner

The Grand Finale was joined by famous celebrity Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, who also assisted the finalists in preparing their ultimate ‘Passion Se Pehchaan’ dish. They prepared a three-course meal reflecting their journey on the program and showcasing everything they have learned, for their ultimate challenge in the finale. The home cooks gave it all to win, with the highly regarded Padma Shri Sanjeev Kapoor as the special guest. After tasting all their dishes, from starters to dessert, the Chefs came to a decision and crowned Assam Boy Nayanjyoti as the winner of MasterChef India Season 7. He was given the Chef jacket along with the trophy and INR 25 Lakh prize money.

Nayanjyoti Saikia was born in Tinsukia, Assam. He attended Sumarjyoti Vidyalaya and Gyan Vigyan Academy in Dibrugarh, Assam. He afterward attended the Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Management and Technology in Guwahati for his degree. Nayanjyoti is a self-taught cook who began cooking while pursuing studies. Chef Vikas Khanna visited Assam to find an Assamese cook. After tasting Nayanjyoti’s food, Chef Vikas asked him to compete in MasterChef India season 7.

MasterChef Season 7 Runner-ups

The runner-ups of this season were Mumbai-based Suvarna Bagul and Santa Sharma from Assam, both were awarded INR 5 lakh prize money. 32 years old Suvarna Bagul became the second runner-up of this season. She has amassed many followers with her exclusive Maharashtrian dishes. Talking about her MasterChef journey Suvarna Bagul said, ‘When I arrived at the auditions, there was a long line but I was quite sure about my dish. Maha Thali consists of several Maharashtrian flavors. I have never ever taken a cooking course to learn cooking, apart from this I used to watch cooking shows on television and follow chef Ranveer Brar’s recipes online. I have almost 25 plus experience in cookery, so I believe that this has all paid off.’

Finalists Santa Sharma was the first runner-up and won. In her MasterChef audition, she served three varieties of sushi with three types of chutney in her. She served butter chicken, sesame chicken, and coriander chicken sushi with orange bhatmas, mashed tomato, and danniya dahi chutney. Santa’s family owns a dairy company, which is the only source of income for the family. Santa strives to prepare foreign meals in her unique Assamese manner in an effort to fulfill her aim of making Assam and Gorkha cuisine well-known on a global scale.
