Lalit Khaitan Biography:  Lalit Khaitan is the chairperson of Radico Khaitan formerly known as as Rampur Distillery & Chemical Company Ltd. He became India’s Newest Billionaire in 2023 at the ripening age of 80. 

Family & Education 

Khaitan was born on 2nd July 1943, in Kolkata to Gajanan Khaitan. He earned his undergraduate degree from Mayo College and St. Xavier’s College, West Bengal. He is also an engineer having pursued a Bachelor’s in Engineering from BMS College of Engineering, Bangalore, and did a Managerial Finance & Accounting course from Harvard, USA.

His journey with Radico Khaitan

Khaitan inherited the former Rampur Distillery & Chemical Company Ltd from his father in 1995, 25 years after his father first acquired it. Radico contemporarily is positioned in the list of largest manufacturers of Indian made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) available in over 85 countries. 

Under the leadership of Lalit Khaitan the humble liquor company turned into one of the largest manufacturers of IMFL. 

Khaitan harnessed the reigns of the marketing division at Radico in 1997 and accomplished remarkable success with one million cases sold of his inaugural brand 8 PM whiskey which also put his name in the Limca Book of World Records. 

The brand is now known for labels like Morpheus Brandy, Afte Dark Whiskey, Rampur Single Malt, Jaisalmer luxury craft gin, and others. 

Achievements 

Khaitan’s tremendous contribution to the liquor industry has earned him several awards and achievements. He was honored with the prestigious ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ by the Uttar Pradesh Distiller Association in December 2017.
