Oscars 2024: The 96th Oscars were held at the Dolby Theater at Ovation Hollywood hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The Academy Awards aka the Oscars is more than just an award for the film fraternity. It is an emotion they at least once want to experience as a film professional. So winning an Oscar brings tears, joys laughs, and heartfelt words that are an attempt to put the surreality of the moment in words. At this year’s Oscars, many won their first-ever Oscars. From the Oppenheimer trio to Wes Anderson, here are some of the firsts at Oscars 2024.

First-Time Oscar Winners

Christopher Nolan

Director Christopher Nolan finally won his first Oscar for directing Oppenheimer. Nolan has made it to the Oscars nominations in 2018 as well, with Dunkirk. He won his first Oscar for Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. (who are also on the list!) starrer Oppenheimer, which he also wrote and produced.

This one was a long due! RDJ finally lifts his first Oscars! Robert Downey Jr. popularly known as Iron Man took home his first-ever Oscar trophy for ‘Best Actor in a Supporting Role’ in J Robert Oppenheimer’s biopic.

RDJ has been in the industry for four decades now and has become a superhero (pun intended) for many of us, so his win felt like a personal accomplishment. In his winning speech, he remarked how the movie has been a lifesaver for him.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph essayed Mary Lamb in Alexander Payne’s ‘The Holdovers’. She won her maiden Oscar and kickstarted the Oscars ceremony with her win, and her winning speech had us all in tears.

Cillian Murphy

The first nominee and winner of the Oscars- Cillian Murphy! Murphy bagged the golden trophy for essaying the Father of Nuclear bombs, Robert J. Oppenheimer.

He became the first Irish-born actor to win the Best Actor in a Leading Role at the 96th Academy Awards. In his speech, he acknowledged his roots saying ‘I’m a very proud Irishman standing here tonight.’

Wes Anderson

After a wait of 22 years and 8 nominations later, Wes Anderson won his first Oscars for his 39-minute short film, ‘The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar’, an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s short story. He won in the category of ‘Best Live Action Short Film.’
