Pallavi Patel Biography: The most awaited results of Uttarpradesh Assembly Elections were announced on 10 March 2022. While BJP regained its power in the state, the party still lost some of the seats to Samajwadi Party. One such shocker was when Keshav Prasad Maurya lost the election from Sirathu seat. SP’s Pallavi Patel defeated him by 7337 votes and became one of the big names from the election winning list.

Who is Pallavi Patel?

Dr. Pallavi Patel is the elder sister of Union minister Anupriya Patel whose Apna Dal (Sonelal) is in alliance with BJP. She defeated Keshav Prasad Maurya who is of BJP. Keshav Prasad Maurya's defeat is one of the most embarrassing situations for the BJP as he is one of the most influential leaders in the Uttar Pradesh unit of the BJP and one of the favorites of  Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. While Pallavi Patel received 1,06,278 votes and 46.49 percent vote share from the Sirathu seat, the deputy CM Maurya bagged 9,89,41 votes and 43.28 percent vote share.

Education and political career

She did her doctorate in vegetable and fruit fungus after graduating in biotechnology. She entered politics in 2008 and initially started working for her father Sone Lal Patel as an assistant. After her father’s death, Pallavi’s mother Krishna Patel became the president and Anupriya became the general secretary of the Apna Dal party. However, in 2014, Krishna Patel made Pallavi the vice-president of the party leading to opposition from Anupriya who claimed that there was no post of vice president in the constitution of the party. The dispute reached the Election Commission and in 2016, the party broke into two factions: Apna Dal (Sonelal) headed by Anupriya Patel, and Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) headed by Krishna Patel.

Pallavi Patel's Rivalry Anupriya Patel

In 2014,  Krishna Patel who was president of Apna Dal made Pallavi the Vice President of the party. However, Pallavi’s younger sister Anupriya Patel opposed Pallavi's appointment as the vice-president of the party. Anupriya argued that there is no post of Vice President in the party's constitution, therefore  Pallavi's appointment is unconstitutional. The dispute between the Anupriya and the president of party  Krishna Patel factions in the party escalated and reached the Election Commission. In 2016, the party split into two groups.

The group supporting Anupriya Patel and her husband Ashish Patel is Apna Dal (Sone Lal) and the group supporting Krishna and Pallavi Patel is Apna Dal (Communist). Anupriya Patel's party supported the BJP in this election, whereas Krishna Patel's party supported Samajwadi Party.

In October 2021, Sone Lal Patel's youngest daughter Aman Patel had written a letter to the Director-General of Police, Uttar Pradesh, accusing her eldest sister Pallavi Patel of taking hold of her father's property. However, mother Krishna Patel disproved all accusations against her daughter Pallavi and said that Ashis Patel, her daughter’s husband, and BJP are creating a divide in her family, and accusations against her daughter were wrong.
