Sam Bahadur Movie Review

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the one who has given some commendable gems to the industry including Raazi, Talvar, and Chhapaak, ‘Sam Bahadur’ depicts the four gracious years of Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw’s military life, narrating the gallantary and colourful personality of India’s first Field Marshal. Bringing the high spirited energy of Sam Manekshaw to the big screens was one of the main challenge that was once concerned, but Meghna knew that starring Vicky Kaushal in and as Sam Maneksahw will definitely turn heads and will do justice to Manekshaw’s character portrayal. The 150-minutes movie goes through different aspects of Maneksahw’s personal and professional life, telling us the ‘Gentleman’ he was- a perfect cook, always dressed crisp and sharp, his bravery, and his blunt humour that made all the men honour him.

The film also had some personal and romantic moments between Manekshaw and his wife Silloo (Sanya Malhotra). The first half of the film depicted Maneksaw performing his duties in Burma during WWII, despite suffering severe injuries. Manekshaw was a key figure in the 1971 war, strategically assisting then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi (played by Fatima Sana Shiekh) in defeating the Pakistan army. The film also depicts the political aspects and the central administration during Indira Gandhi's leadership. Overall, the movie provdes knowledge about some noticeable moments of war-driven years and clearly shows the life and journey of one of the most important figures in the Indian history, with praiseworthy performances.
