Threads, Meta's X (previously Twitter) competitor software, may finally get an online version this week. Threads was formerly only accessible as an app for iPhones and Android smartphones. While the app has received 100 million sign-ups, maintaining users remains a struggle. Users of the web version may benefit from greater usability, whether on a phone or a desktop. Meta will also go closer to competing with X, which has been offering new features to both the web and app in order to keep consumers.
On July 5, the Threads app was released. The app's traffic is steadily declining after first working well. Threads app got 100 million visitors in just 5 days, setting a new record. According to a recent analysis from SimilarWeb, the number of active users on Threads has dropped to roughly 10 million, while Insider Intelligence believes that Threads' competitor, X, has 363.7 million monthly active users. X reported 237.8 million daily active users in its most recent quarterly earnings report in July of last year. This indicates that the company's traffic is high this year.
Threads is also introducing new functionality. Over the weekend, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced "two small updates." "We're rolling out a new Reposts tab on your profile so you can see all the threads you reposted in one place," he stated in a topics post. We are also adding reposts to your Following Feed based on your comments." Threads, according to Meta, is a text-based extension of Instagram.
