World Population Day 2023 Date: World Population Day is commemorated annually on July 11, 2023 to draw attention to the issues with overpopulation and to increase understanding of how it affects development and the environment.
Over the past few decades, there has been a sharp rise in global population, and further population growth may result in a variety of additional issues. Thus, World Population Day is commemorated annually to raise public awareness of a variety of population-related concerns, including the necessity of family planning, gender equality, poverty, maternal health, and human rights.
The theme of World Population Day 2023 is "Unleashing the power of gender equality: Uplifting the voices of women and girls to unlock our world's infinite possibilities".
To increase the awareness of several issues related to the global population, we observe World Population Day on 11th July every year. The day is more significant this year as India became most populous country in 2023.

The United Nations Development Programme's Governing Council created World Population Day in 1989 as a result of the enthusiasm sparked by the Day of Five Billion, which was marked on July 11, 1987. By this time, it was essential to raise public awareness of population issues and their effects on growth and the environment.
In order to increase public understanding of population issues and how they relate to the environment and development, the United Nations General Assembly voted to continue marking World Population Day in resolution 45/216 of December 1990. The day was originally observed on July 11, 1990, in more than 90 nations. Since then, several UNFPA country offices as well as other organisations and institutions have observed World Population Day in collaboration with authorities and the public.
The goal of World Population Day is to raise awareness of the significance of population issues and the necessity to address them. This year's discussion topics will include family planning, poverty, sexual equality, civil rights, maternal health, and more.
