Cannes 2025: Over the last few years, several cinephiles have expressed outrage against the influencers setting foot on the Steps of Palais, believing that with no connection to films or filmmaking, the influencers are taking away the sanctity of the place. But is it true though? Are influencers stealing the limelight from great films and filmmakers at the film festival?
Cannes, once perceived to be a grand celebration of films and filmmaking genius, is no longer just that. Today it is a geography of cultural representation, fashion trends, and digital influence.
Brands and companies like Brut and L’Oreal use it as a marketing platform as well, inviting influencers to cover the event with them and give them massive page views.
So while it may seem that influencers are tainting the film haven, they are actually glorifying it in the global media.
